Organic Wool![]() Demeter producer Albert Haupt, from Narrandera NSW exported Australian biodynamic wool to German in the early 1990™s. It was used to make baby clothes and baby blankets. A lot of new information had just appeared about the impact of agricultural chemicals, as a result of pesticide activists, but also because detection equipment had improved significantly. It was also the time when midwives ceased recommending lanolin for nursing mothers. There was a period of about a decade during which there were no organic wool experts from Australia. The McClure family from Trevallyn Station in Western NSW then exported the first Australian organic wool through Elders BKW, who continue to sell up to 750 bales in a sale. Lanoc Wool has now also joined the search for ... Read more |

Wool - Export![]() Export Markets outside USA and JapanAt present all AQIS accredited certified organic produce is accepted for entry into the EU, based upon an equivalence arrangement between the EU and the Australian Government. For most categories of goods, specific certification arrangements are required for entry into the USA and Japan. The USDA operates the National Organic Program (NOP) and Japan operates the Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS).China has recently announced a requirement for Chinese certification, and most organic goods will need to be recertified by an approved Chinese certification organisation.Canada is also in the process of creating a national regulation, and it is likely that an equivalency arrangement will be negotiated with Australia, for the trade in organic produce and products between the two countries.A number of ... Organic wool![]() Organic fibre markets are less well established than edible products. Recent organic wool exports from Australia started in 2005, when Elders sent organic wool to Europe, after a break of about a decade since the first exports of biodynamic wool in the early 90™s. Since that time, a Western Australian exporter has also been looking for certified organic woolHowever most organic industry observers would believe that the history of ever broadening markets will continue and that this expansion will provide ...
